Aug. 13th, 2020 12:23 amPersonality:
- easy going: having lived a good chunk of his life basically being used as a test subject for poisons and their cures has left him not minding most things in life. He can even take having been lied to about a cure to his condition in stride. After all, for a person who has little time left, there's really no reason to sweat the small details. He'd rather take things in stride and enjoy the time he has rather than stressing out about things that he has no power to change.
- protective: while he won't sacrifice others for no reason, he's willing to go very far to protect the people he cares about up to and including doing harm to himself. The few times he's genuinely angry in canon is because someone had hurt the people he cares about.
- lonely: having grown up without a family, he created his sect simply to have a family...and though he doesn't like acknowledging it, he had grown up lonely and because of that he's a bit weak to people who genuinely care about him.
- troll: he's the sort person to tease and speak nonsense...both towards people he cares about and strangers. It's never malicious in nature but he can't seem to help himself. Incidentally, the more he likes someone or the more they remind him of people he likes the more likely he is to tease them.
- kind: even though he acts very blase about everything and jokes a lot when he cares about people he cares about them deeply. Also he seems to become fond of people easily.
History:
Born in the cold northern regions of Great Liang, he was found by a mad doctor and his assistant and whisked away with other orphans to be used as test subjects for poisons. Yun Yifeng, having a body that recovers well from poisons was able to survive these tests and henceforth became the primary poison-tester. His resistance didn't mean he couldn't be poisoned just that he's unlikely to be killed by them though after a while he developed immunity to most of the ones he'd been fed...until he was given one that is going to kill him. Instead of letting himself be subjected to further tests he bargained for his freedom by bascially going on a hunger strike, refusing food and water until he was allowed to leave the island, knowing that Gui Ci was obsessed with finding the cure to the poison he was afflicted with and needed him alive for that. He successfully left the island in the end. Sometime after he formed the Fengyu Sect, establishing himself and the sect among the pugilist world as people who traded and sold information, thus securing a place among the other sects.
One day, Xaio Wang, Ji Yanran comes to Fengyu Sect to buy the services of Yun Yifeng to help him track down a treasure stolen from the Imperial Palace. They embark on an adventure that unearths along its way a plot to overthrow the Emperor, sow discord between Ji Yanran and his brothers as well as dig up crimes from the past...and along the way they fall in love.
The government alongside Fengyu Sect are trying to find the Blood Lingzi to cure him but so far no leads have turned up. The most recent lead came from a tribesman of one of the Eighteen Tribes that has been at war with Great Liang for years. They offered up the Blood Lingzi but in return Xiao Wang, the War God of Great Liang must promise them three things.
Though they initially agreed that none of those three things can be anything that hurts the citizens of Great Liang at the end, the last of the three things included three cities along the North-West Border.
Three border towns for Yun Yifeng's life.
At the height of the discussions Yun Yifeng came to Ji Yanran and told him: if you accept that offer I'll kill myself.
In the end, Xiao Wang pretended to go along with things but turned the tables on the man and, along with allies from other tribes in the Eighteen Tribes defeated the man who spewed accusations like how Ji Yanran had all but murdered his own love with this move. Yun Yifeng walked in and immediately had his disciple stuff a rag in the man's mouth.
Then, tired of living like this, tired of having his condition leveraged against the man he loves, Yun Yifeng asks Ji Yanran to give up on finding a cure, to come with him to Jiangnan now that things have calmed down and to spend whatever time they have left travelling and enjoying things.
